Pictou County Launches Shared Community Recreation Platform for All Residents

Pictou County, NS — Accessing recreation in Pictou County is about to get a whole lot easier.

Through collaboration between the Pictou County Partnership, municipal units across Pictou County, and local business PlayFinder Inc., a county-wide digital recreation platform is being launched to connect residents with programs, facilities, and community opportunities like never before.

Funded by the Pictou County Partnership, this initiative represents a three-year pilot of a Community Access Model, providing no-cost access to the suite of PlayFinder tools for all municipal recreation departments and eligible non-profit organizations/facilities across the county.

This shared platform will allow residents to:

• Discover local programs, activities, and events

• Register online for recreation opportunities and pay securely

• Book facilities and access community resources

• Stay connected to what’s happening across the county

Municipal recreation teams across Pictou County will be using PlayFinder to deliver their upcoming summer programming and more.

“This is about making it easier for people to find and participate in the activities that make our communities vibrant,” said Rob Young, Operations, Pictou County Partnership. “We’re proud to support an initiative that strengthens access, supports volunteers, and brings communities together.”

“PlayFinder was built right here in rural Nova Scotia, and this kind of collaboration is exactly what we envisioned,” said Laura Duggan, Co-Founder of PlayFinder. “Pictou County is showing what’s possible when communities invest in shared infrastructure that benefits everyone.”

As part of the rollout, residents are encouraged to create a free PlayFinder account and set up their family profile now to be ready for program registration.

Organizations and community groups across the county will also have the opportunity to join the platform. This is a new system for municipal staff and community volunteer organizations -  your patience is appreciated as staff and volunteers learn and implement new tools designed to improve the experience and ease of access for everyone in the long run.
