Destination

Acadia Park has walking trails, a children's playground and a Miner's Memorial. The park offers a place for visitors to the Town to come and picnic, relax, listen to music or follow the trails and reflect upon nature. There are several access points to the trail. The trail is open year round and is plowed during the winter months. For snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, folks are welcome to go "off-trail".

Climb 365 metres above the Chéticamp River for panoramic views of the Acadian coastline, the Chéticamp river valley and the park's highland interior. Benches along the way let you rest periodically and enjoy the scenery. Watch how the forest changes as you climb steadily to the top and be on the look-out for black bear and moose.

Length: 8.4 km (5.2 mi) loop
Hiking Time: 3 - 4 hours
Elevation: 20 - 365 m (65 - 1200 ft.)
For your comfort and safety:
- Do not approach, disturb or feed wild animals.
- Take along appropriate clothing
- rapid weather changes often occur on the plateau or along the coast.
- Carry water with you, especially for longer trails, climbs or open barrens.
- Bring insect repellent as black flies and mosquitoes are common all summer.
- Mountain bikes are permitted only where indicated, for public safety and protection of the environment.
- Stay on boardwalks to protect fragile vegetation.
- Do not throw food or scraps along the trails or roads.
- Read "Keep it Wild, Keep it Safe" brochure, available at park visitor centres.

Our work includes improving active transportation routes, supporting volunteer trail groups, offering after‑school programs, collaborating on hiking and walking initiatives, developing trails, and helping people access programs and services. By building connections between people, places, and resources, we make it easier for everyone to be active in their daily lives.

Active Pictou County is a partnership between the Town of Pictou and the Municipality of Pictou County, supported by the Province of Nova Scotia through the Municipal Physical Activity Leadership (MPAL) program.

Advanced Volleyball Conditioning Camp hosted by Melanie MacDonald at Whycocomagh Education Centre is designed for highschool students looking to participate in a refresher camp before school starts. The camp is open to students grades 9-12.

The camp has space for 24 participants and the cost is $70
Attend as many as possible but not mandetory

Africentric Heritage Park

The Africentric Heritage park opened in 2000 and bears the inscription “to our children." It was created to commemorate the past, focus on the present and provide a foundation for the cultural future of African Nova Scotians. The Park is situated on Vale Road in the South end of New Glasgow. At the heart of the park is a pyramid-shaped building, which symbolizes the pyramids of Egypt. Each side of the building represents a portion of the history and migration story of the Black community in Nova Scotia.
